Conference Coordinator: James Williams

Introduction | Programme

Introduction

The Commonwealth Policy Studies Unit (CPSU) is once again holding its Annual Summer Conference for Young People from the 2nd - 4th July 2007 at the Institute of Commonwealth Studies, Russell square. The conference will provide delegates with a general introduction to the Commonwealth, before looking specifically at its work in two key areas: Climate Change and the Millennium Development Goals (MDG's). For information on past conferences, please look at our 2005 conference and 2006 conference.

The Commonwealth, with more than two thirds of its population under 29 years old, has long realised the importance of engaging young people in pursuit of its policy aims. Since its inception, the CPSU has been fully committed to this approach and we believe that the dynamism and drive of young people can be harnessed to cultivate new ideas that will assist in the evolution of the Commonwealth.

The 3-day conference is aimed at those with an interest in international relations, politics, and other related disciplines. With presentations by senior diplomats, academics, journalists, politicians, and Commonwealth staff, the CPSU believes that the conference will provide delegates with an invaluable insight into the work of one of the world's foremost international organisations (A brief outline of the conference programme can be found below).

We hope to build on the success of our past conferences by organising a variety of presentations, workshops, and panel discussions that will provide delegates with a comprehensive understanding of the Commonwealth and the important role it has to play on the international scene. The conference will also offer delegates an opportunity to develop their career prospects by fostering an environment where they can network informally with prospective employers.

The cost for the entire conference is £45 per person. The CPSU is a not-for-profit organisation and this nominal fee will include access to all events, refreshments and lunch every day. The CPSU understands that, for financial reasons, it may be difficult for some to attend the conference. Consequently, we are able to reimburse reasonable travel expenses for some delegates. Assistance in finding accommodation can also be offered. The CPSU is able to offer 2 nights free accommodation for 5 delegates. Assistance will be offered on a first come, first serve basis.

Spaces are allocated on a first come first serve basis. To reserve your place, please print and complete the Registration Form and return to:
