Water and Environment
Environmental degradation damages the livelihoods of many in the commonwealth. From people struggling to cope in water-stressed regions to the risk of small island states disappearing due to rising sea-levels, the threats posed by climate change and other environmental factors are severe. CPSU’s work highlights these issues and investigates realistic international solutions safeguarding both the environment and people’s livelihoods. For example, our recent pro-poor forestry project looks at the role carbon finance can play in protecting local people’s incomes at the same time as reducing deforestation and our Commonwealth Fisheries Programme looks at strengthening marine fisheries policy and the role that fisheries contribute to development.
